Oh girl....he didn't just start doing this once you guys were married. My guess is he was a massive cheater the entire time they knew each other but she emotionally/psychologically couldn't conceive of it based on her perspective of him. She built up an image of him that didn't exist.

I guess she was there helping while having the kid....
I thought "birthing partner" was some new BS like "birthing person" and she was like a surrogate mother...

In this day and age, I really had no idea what they were saying with the use of “birthing partner”. My first guess was that they were a gay couple, but then the article referenced the husband of one of them.
So they are using the slightly older (but still relatively new) idea of a birthing partner as a friend who helps you during delivery.
My how fast the language is changing!
