Depends where you are. In the western parts of the central time zone there will be times where it is going to be pitch black dark well into mid-morning.

The call to end the antiquated practice of clock changing is gaining momentum throughout the nation," Rubio said, according to a press release. "Studies have shown many benefits of a year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is why the Florida legislature voted to make it permanent in 2018. I'm proud to reintroduce this bipartisan bill to make Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent, and give our nation's families more stability throughout the year."

Funny to read something so formal about clocks.

Civil twilight in Amarillo on the latest sunrise of the year would be 8:30 CDT, for reference.

Eta- 8:30am, to be clear.

Leave it in standard time since the position of the sun cannot be rearranged. So noon is when the sun is directly over you.

Don’t even need a clock.

Over/under number of posters in this thread whose understanding of DST is the opposite of what it actually is: 7

This would easily be the greatest achievement of the Biden administration

I don't think you understand what you are saying. Think about how the sun (seemingly) moves across the sky, hint it doesn't jump a time zone at a time.

Do not like this one bit. I enjoy it getting darker earlier during the holidays. More time to enjoy the lights.

Yes I know - that has nothing to do with what I’m saying.

In December in eastern New Mexico sunset is usually around 4:42 pm. That completely sucks.

The central time zone starts to creep east as it goes north in the US. Dickinson, ND would have civil twirling at 8:06 CDT on January 4th.

How is this not a 10th amendment issue? Are the feds going to withhold interstate funding if states fail to comply?

You’re going to be left with the Supreme Court deciding that “because virtual meetings take place across different states, the federal government has authority via the Commerce clause”. Which is fine until the Courts use that as precedent to give the Feds the power to do something ridiculous.
