Aren't you a teetotaler? Perhaps that's why you've never been in that position.

Having a few drinks with a meal is pretty common across the entire country. Driving after minimal drinking like that is not the same kind of scenario as shitfaced people leaving a bar and being completely negligent on the road. It's just not. You would probably be a greater danger on the road driving tired versus a .08 or .10 BAC.

Yet the legal ramifications are exactly the same, which is rather absurd. Sometimes Ubering and leaving your vehicle somewhere else for a negligible amount if alcohol is really not a practical option. Yes, for people who don't drink it's an issue that they don't care about. For everybody else it's something worthy of discussion. There's a reason the BAC law is .08 and not 0. Its laughable when people treat someone getting a DUI for barely being over the limit and getting stopped for something that has nothing to do with driving recklessly as morally comparable to someone trashed driving all over the road.

Seems pretty smart now, doesn't it?

Well, if you have 3 or 4 (or more) and immediately get on the road with a broken taillight, expired inspection sticker or run a stop sign - CONGRATULATIONS - you're a double idiot today.

The ole shotgun approach to making and enforcing laws is outdated and retarded. They need to make serious dunk driving a felony (i.e. driving with B.A.C. greater than .175) or something like that. Futhermore if you get into an accident where you are at fault with greater than .08 make it a felony. This crap where all 1st and 2nd offense DWI's are misdemeanors is ridiculous. Also lighten the penalties for the less serious offenders.

If you leave your vehicle in any lot in BR overnight it's ending up at Riverside.
So as a drunk college kid, you had two choices. The right, yet exhaustive thing, ir roll the dice and drive drunk knowing the odds if getting home are in your favor.

It's not a black and white choice for many.

It should be if you are drunk you can leave your car without paying a ransom

Interesting language that many are choosing "get screwed" - so I must assume your issue is with the cop as well, not the guy careening around (possibly near your children) drunk in the middle of the day?

Good to know.

Nope, I chose poorly with my language. Meant that his life was screwed (by his actions).

I don't think it's smart or stupid. It's a personal choice one way or another.

Fair enough, but the issue itself is much broader than that.
