I hear you. I'm getting sick of liberals, being demonized because I own guns, and panther fans.

I'm hoping this new water research center in BR could use some turbulent fluid mechanics modelers...

Honestly I have no clue. It's just wishful thinking at this point.

His scores are too good for either school. LSU is more fun though.

He should study physics. It's everything mechanical engineering is only it's got even less chicks in the classes.

If he knows he wants to go to grad school and he ends up going to an LSU or LA tech type school for undergrad, this is actually a good plan. Much more rigorous approach to physics and math fundamentals, which MEs unfortunately don't need in undergrad

That way, if he decides to do the grad school route, he can do meaningful research; if he decides not to, he has his pick of jobs.

Yes, this should be part of the equation. Does he think he may have any interest in grad school post-bacc? If so, going to a school with a good grad program makes sense. Otherwise, maybe not.

The fact is that MIT is about the best there is as a PhD-level research university, but they have a reputation of not providing much support at the undergrad level (as in many, if not most, classes taught by grad students who may or may not speak English).

Also note that the US News link posted earlier is for grad schools, and the ranking is heavily influenced by the amount of research money brought in, almost none of which helps undergrads at all. In fact, any of these rankings need to be accepted with a dose of skepticism. This link may be more useful for undergrad degrees.

He should be applying to Georgia Tech. Widely accepted as the best engineering program in the country.

What?

I recommended he apply to GT earlier in this thread but where the hell are you pulling that stat from?

I keep checking the news sites to see if the Russians or North Koreans managed to nuke Palo Alto, Cambridge, Pasadena and Berkley but nothing is showing up yet.

Does everyone in this thread realize that college applications to good schools end at like January 1st? If he's only applied to Tech, LSU, and MIT (he won't hear back from MIT until March), then I don't see the point of everyone telling him to go to Georgia Tech, etc , which would have been good advice for him two months ago, not now.

I haven't applied, or been a part of the application process, in over 10 years now. So you're correct, it may already be too late for August. He could transfer though.

Engineering Programs are close but better networking opportunities for jobs in attending LSU.

Had a class where TECH students had to watch our professor on a webcam because they didnt offer the class at TECH
