Has some great looking sport coats that are inexpensive too.
And suits.
Ralph Lauren, Nautica, Dockers, Perry Ellis, Kenneth Cole, etc. for about $95-$160

Martinez looks so legit
I will plan to get a few suits made soon
What am I looking at for pricing?
Depends on the material, pattern and amount of details you want. I wouldn't walk in unless you expect to spend $1k a piece and that's just for the basics.

Nothing wrong with Manuel, or Martinez suits, but Manuel is not a bespoke tailor and does not make the garments. Martinez suits are made to measure and are made in a factory, not on-site. However, that is in keeping with the price.
You get to pick your fabric, details, and you will get a solid fit - it is, in those regards, custom. However, you are not getting your own pattern or anything like that.

No place in Baton Rouge is doing their own patterns. Martinez does do the tailoring himself, at least for the higher end things. If you just walk in off the street, it might be made in another shop but if you schedule an appointment with Manuel, he is doing the clothing.

I have no doubt that he does adjustments, i.e., bringing in the waist, adjusting the hem, etc., but he is not cutting, providing a basted fitting, trimming, finishing, etc., himself.
Everything that you receive from Manuel is from another factory, made to his specifications (I am not certain what the options are in terms of canvassing).
Again, there is nothing wrong with this. For the price, it is expected (around $2-2.5K for a SC, correct?). I do not believe that he has ever made any claim that he is a "master tailor" - instead, he is a "custom tailor," and there is a distinction there.

His own website says, "In 2002, Manuel Martinez received the Certificate of Master Clothing Designer from CTDA"

Does he tailor outside pieces? Or only his own stuff?

I was expecting at least 1k for Martinez.
I'm planning on 2-3 top suits for big meetings and important events with the wife
My other generic suits are fine for the other times

As an aside, Certificate of Master Clothing Designer =/ Master Tailor. This is a large distinction. This is from the CTDA's website:
*** Master Tailor – a CTDA member with a lifetime of experience and skill as a bench tailor, who designs, cuts, and tailors a garment on his/her premises.
** Master Custom Designer (MCD) – a CTDA member with more than 4 years experience in the Custom Clothing Industry and who has completed the CTDA Education Program. Courses include Measuring, Fitting & Alterations, Style, Fabrics, Shirts, Blue Pencil, and Business.
* Certified Merchant Member (CMM) – a CTDA member with more than 2 years experience in the Custom Clothing Industry, and who has completed the CTDA Education Program Courses “Measuring” and “Fitting & Alterations” and is pursuing status as a Master Custom Designer.
Not trying to be ornery, but there is a lot of misinformation about what you are getting. This is a common issue in the tailoring world today - there are very few "truly" bespoke Master Tailors operating in the United States.

I'm honestly not sure if you can get anything for $1k or not. For what you are looking for, it's probably $2k each.

I've never said Manuel is a bespoke tailor nor has he promoted himself as such. With the amount of clients he has now, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he has 3rd party-ed out some of the work, but he definitely does some of the cutting and tailoring himself.
No matter how you define it, he's the best Baton Rouge and Louisiana, for that matter, have in-state.

Not saying I would ever do it, but you can get suits on Seville Row that cost $30k.

Vinny Melwani was mentioned a few times on here and I contacted him over the summer. His next trip is in November. The suits are made in Hong Kong but he comes to BR twice a year (May/November) for measurements and to get your fabric choices.
Not a recommendation because I have not used him before but it is an option.
ETA: probably a much less expensive option

I get mine from JoS Bank clearance sales, Stein Mart and Dillard’s Clearance for cheap. Then bring it to El Bengal.
Overall after the suit and alterations, I pay about $200-$300.
BTW: one of my favorite and best looking suits came from JC Penney
