I am a fan of the Cosmo. If you are looking to drink, nightclub, gamble..for one night you can stay here and never have to leave.
Yeah, this might change my suggestion up.
Looking for a cheaper place but still fun, try The D in downtown.

Encore. Call ahead (way ahead) and make reservations at SW. If a Friday or Saturday get the vip package at le reve
And as a guest you can get into the night clubs. Won't have to stand in line. (Surrender, xs)

Stayed at the Venentian for a week in June. I'd recommend there, the Palazzo, or Cosmo.

The Gold Nugget is the best kept secret in not only vegas, but the entire country.

Since you are downtown they have a cool place called Atomic Liquors bar (think it is the oldest standing bar in Vegas).
Food wise some of my favorites off the strip are:
- Lotus of Siam
- Golden Steer
- Steakhouse at Circus Circus (sounds insane but it is good)
- Pieros
If you like outside activities:
- Red Rock canyon
- Mt. Charleston
- Lake Mead (renting a boat is fun for the day)
Strip:
-The new Linq district is pretty cool with shops, resturants and the "High Roller" (like the London Eye). It also has O'sheas casino that has $2 High Lifes, Casino War and Beer Pong. Hahah
Entertainment as far as shows, just take your pick. O at the Bellagio is top notch, just be aware usually Monday and Tuesday alot of shows are dark.
I'm a fan of downtown, just don't go that often as it is about a $90 round trip cab ride if I want to drink. Sucks, but they have really done a 180 on that area and cleaned it up over the years.

Yeah, you can get some great rates at Golden Nugget and The D in downtown. Both are pretty nice and the value is top notch. Why I like downtown when I go out, cheap places to stay, cheap tables and drinks.
I had to meet some friends in town at MGM two weeks ago and went to Hakkasan, had a hook up get us in for free and two rounds of drinks but after that i was $12 for a Bud Light and 5 Jamesons on the rocks was $92. Just insane.

Haha, yeah it is nuts. Place was packed though, it is insane how much these nightclubs and now day/pool clubs make here.
