Mid-City Baton Rouge might be a good investment area. Seems like values in the city are only going to go up based on the jobs coming to the area. I don't live there though.

welcome to mid city. You will learn to get use to police choppers at night, random gun fire at night, and your place being broken into if you live in mid city.

One shot it's bad drug deal no big deal typical for Friday night.
If hear return fire that's when it's a few hour ordeal with cops and police chopper looking for the shooter which you can hear from inside the house even if shooting is a few blocks down.

One night two drug dealers were shooting at each other it sounded worse than fighting in combat my wife and I got down on the floor. Heard the choppers, BRPD, officers using bull horn, you can see the lights at night shine through the curtains, and you hear diesels from the fire truck responding to the shooting. The incident was a few houses down.

You will learn swat bust with sheriff is a typical grenade at door it sound like a car hitting something.
BRPD swat makes slightly more noise.
After a few bust on your street you will learn the difference.

Baton Rouge outside of a few areas like Southdowns is worse than some third world countries.

Invest in a good camera system.
Learn to carry and properly use a fire arm
Have someone look after their spouse if the guy is out of town
Never leave for work before your wife too dangerous
Use razor wire around your fence to keep people from coming into your yard

A big question is.... do you plan on putting your child in public or private school? That dictates where you live. Private will be at least 10 grand$ (even grade school is over 5000) Dont buy an apt in BR, it wont resell. Look at Perkins Rowe for example.
