Tartine is legit too. A vote for Maurice as well. Dong Phuong is the best the last two years running, IMO.

There are some really good cakes around. The icing and overall flavor of a Dong Phuong, filling of a tartine, the “bread” of a Maurice. We try to get one of each and have found some really good gems. I still have to have a randazzo cake once a year though.
For a great “trash” cake, the tastee donut donut king cake is good. Completely nothing traditional about it, but it’s worth a try.
