Best Hawaiian island to stay on for all around experience?

Or is there not really one that has everything?
Great beaches, snorkeling, volcanoes, waterfall hikes, good food, the touristy luau type outside dinners, great resorts, etc

I've enjoyed Maui a lot, but there isn't much nightlife if you are looking for that too.

The only real night life is in Honolulu.

Actually, you can remove "night-life" from all around. Not interested in that.

Just came back from the big island couple days ago. Stayed at the Hilton near Kona and it was Grand!

Maui if you like different restaurants and towns to go to. Kuai if you just want to chill and relax in the jungle.

Kauai....and it is no contest.
In order of best to worst:
Kauai
Maui
Big Island
Oahu
Never been to Molokai or Lanai as they are very remote with little entertainment options.
Kauai has the best scenery. Great hiking and horseback riding. Plenty of quality restaurants to satisfy for a two week visit. Great beaches, but they all have that. Great shopping in Hanalei, Kapa'a, Lihue and Hanapepe. Good bars in Hanalei and Kapa'a. Great resorts but I would recommend staying in a condo on the North side. Great golf and some good Luaus. Smith's family Luau was pretty good.
Been 4 times. Stayed at the Marriott the 1st trip and it was very, very nice. Next 3 times we stayed in condos and continue to go that route. Just to much scenery to see on that island to stay at a resort. Just not there for most of the day.

Kauai is correct. Has it all and then some.
Half of Maui feels like destin with better scenery.
Oahu on the Northshore is pretty good too.

For great beaches, snorkeling, waterfal hikes -- Kauai.
For good food selection, touristy luau's, great resorts, etc -- Maui.

It is impossible to do Hawaii wrong.

Maui is beautiful and exactly what you imagine when one thinks of Hawaii. More rural than other islands for sure though. But I like that.

I agree. Maui has more touristy stuff but balances it well with seclusion too.
