Burgundy is a part of France today, it has been independent at times in the past. Here though comes from the Spanish as the rulers of Spain al and the Netherlands and a whole bunch of other places used it on their colonizing voyages to the new world and they used the Burgundian cross due to family history being in burgundy. Way oversimplification by me there lol.
