I use Merkur super. I forget the head I have. Dumb question: Are the heads universal? i.e, can the feather blade fit in my head that uses Merkur Super blades? Is persona better than the Merkur blades? how so?

Any DE blade will fit in it. I've tried a lot but never the Merkur Supers. I love the Persona so far - got a box of 100 so it will be well into next year before I have to buy more. I'm satisfied with the smoothness of the shave.

I have been using Gillette Platinum double edge razor blades in my safety razor for the last few years, and I'm looking for a better blade.

Lots of people will claim Feathers are the best/sharpest. Maybe they are the sharpest but every person gets different results from different blades. Personally, while I do get good results from Feathers, they don't work the best for me. I like KAI's, but they aren't cheap either. Personna are probably 2nd on my list. My recommendation is to go to the site below and get a variety of blades and try several to see which you like.

FYi Merkur and EJ use the same heads, only difference is the handle.

Was not aware of this until I had to buy a new cap as I broke one and had to replace it.

That's good to know.

I use Feather, but I get a better shave with an Astra S.P.

I have some more blades in a sampler to try, but I'm already leaning toward buying some Astra, and have heard good things about Kai. I plan to pull the trigger on blades in a few days.

I like Shark, too, as well as Wilkinson Swords.

What's the best razor to use with the double edge blades? (like the handle or whatever). Or are the all the same?

DE shaving has changed my life. It's not snobbery, just sharing the fortune.

Spending less money to get a better end result is "snobbery"?

How is $200 for a 5 inch piece of steel spending less money?

And the snobbery comes in these threads when the posters continue on how theirs is the best and they mock people who use disposables.

Not sure which razor you are referring to at the $200 tag. My Merkur was $32 about 3 years ago. I bought about 60 blades for about $11. Brush ran me about $15.

Show us on the doll where the retro-shaver touched you.

Can't claim hipster, because many of us are likely OLDER than you.

My first DE Razor was in a set for $23.00, the second, was buy itself for $29.00. But thanks for playing along. Any money spent on razors from here on, are out of desire/collecting not necessity.

One handle can last four GENERATIONS and still shave quite fine, so I'm told, with good/decent blades.

The same applies to shaving cream/soap, brushes, as well.

If these discussions anger you so much, perhaps you could simply avoid them? Can't help yourself, can you?

Tell me you're not one of the OT ballers who spends $140 on a Brooks Brothers shirt?

Side discussion, what cream/foam/lather do you guys recommend?
