From anyone who has them at your job/or wherever.. which brand/model under $5,000 would you say is the best for a warehouse environment that would see about 40 to 50 lbs of ice used daily?

I have two Hoshizaki. One makes 400 lbs a day one makes 200lbs. About $2500 and $1800 respectively with the bins. Best ice machines I've had. They are cubes not crushed. Crushed has blades and they have more trouble with them. Ducotes on Florida has them.

Hoshizaki.

Five years before Katrina, I scammed/convinced [redacted faceless company] Corporate to put one in our ~100 user facility during a rebuild of our office in the CBD. It's still there, cranking out ice.

Pro tip... no, actually you must do this: pay for the extra outboard water filters and change them often.

ETA: Now that I think about it, it was a square cuber like this LINK. I wanted a flake box (Sonic Ice style), but the bean counters were wise to my conniving ways by that time, hah.

50lbs isn't shite for a commercial unit.

Just picked up a Scottsman
model #C0530MA-1 for work. It has a 500lb bin and works great. Sadly to go down to a 250lb bin was about $150 cheaper. All in for the 500lb was $3465.30, we purchased from Ace Mart out of Houston. They shipped it for about $85 from Houston to Cameron. You would have to have a drain or run a drain pipe due to it draining water every now and then. Good luck!!

Hozinaki or close. We have a 250# bin and hammer it during the summer. It struggles only because we use it so hard. SS and top of the line parts/pieces.
2600$ 5 years ago with a 250# bin delivered to a camp.
Good luck.

its initial guess but many coworkers will obviously start taking ice home (myself included!) especially since many of us go fishing all the time.

I will add another vote for Hoshizaki. Just put a second one in our camp, the first has been running for 12 years. You can't filter the water enough on them, we run two filters on each unit and change every two months.

That's exactly what I did with ours: found and made an agreement with the fishermen / tailgaters in our office to occasionally take all they wanted & thus clean out the storage bin.

I also caught & stopped the folks who would store cold drinks and glasses *in* the ice. Ewww. Use the scoop, people.

Filters and a little ice-inventory management kept the ice clean, cold and tasty.

Scotsman is a piece of shite. I have one in my store and it stays broke. Hoshizaki or manitowac would be the best two to choose from. I will probably go with manitowac pretty soon

Same thing at my last job. We had a big machine down in the warehouse. Every Friday you could go down there and fill up a cooler. Helped to have it almost emptied every weekend. Any time we had a big guys event or a tailgate planned I'd fill mine up.

Good lord that's a lot of drinks. I just want this Manitowoc under-counter unit. One day...

I have the big one at home and the smaller at the farm. When I bought the big one I was fishing weekly but it still is too big. All the neighbors use it though which is cool with me as it needs to cycle. I toss the ice every now and then just to let it work. If you put things in it like a beer or drink it messes up the ice and makes the cubes smaller. I will put something in it occasionally but try to remember to take them out. It used to be a treasure hunt when I would empty it and find all kinds of beers.
