Divorce was finalized last year. Wife filed first then fought tooth and nail to make it as long and miserable as possible. Thankfully all that is over. As far as the children, I tried going through a mediator with the hope we could amicably agree to what was best for our children. After we reached an agreement and followed it for 4 months she decided to file for full custody. So we went back to court. I felt like I got shafted by the system. Being that I work shift work she was awarded majority custody and now I only get to see them every other weekend. Per the custody decree I have the right to call and talk to my children once a day however my ex doesn’t answer the calls or text. My current lawyer has told me this isn’t worth taking back to court but I strongly disagree. Not being able to see them every day is bad enough but being denied my right to talk to them, only to have my lawyer tell me “this isn’t worth bringing to court, just keep documentation and try to work it out between each other”. However my ex unreasonable and bitter about the divorce that she initiated and I finished. She has even gone as low as trying to alienate me from my children and has been filling there heads with lies. All I can do is hope they can see through the lies and manipulation.

It's been a while since I went through this, but Brian Prendergrast is good. When I worked for an attorney, she always said if she ever divorced she would use Vince Saffiotti (who is in same firm as Karen Downs).

I used Brian against Saffiotti 10 years or so ago with great results. I strongly recommend him, if he's still doing family law work. I went from having nothing to 50/50 joint, legal physical and no child support. My kid has been living with me half of the time since then.

In the process of getting a straight day job within my company so that I will be eligible to be awarded the 50/50
custody…because that is what is fair. Child support is not a factor in my decisions with taking her back to court.

I can’t help with an attorney but I’ll tell you this as a child whose “father” left before I was born.

Don’t EVER talk bad about their mother in front of them. Nothing. Zero.

When they ask questions, answer honestly at a level appropriate for their age.

They will one day realize what really happened and they’ll go from there. They’ll be allowed to form their own opinions .. I can promise you my opinion was solid after getting answers from my mother — she only answered questions and gave no more or less of her opinions. When I became a mother my opinions were even more solidified.

I’m a mom but I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My “father” didn’t fight for shite and I was blessed with a stepfather who is my real daddy.

God bless.

Vincent Saffioti was my fourth attorney. He was a great counselor and got shite done. Worth every penny

That’s great that you can afford them. They pay the illiterate judges. Good for you.

All I can say is fight for you kids. Do what you have to do if they mean that much to you.

My kids meant enough to me that I gave up my 100k+ a year shift job so I wasn’t able to be part of their life. Work a normal job. Make half of what I used too!!

My attorney did not fight her attorney, but the bs judge, and court system

It really depends on what you’re willing to give up to be with your kids.

Don't they have long-distance walkie talkies? Rapid Radios? Would that work?

Stay the course, and never give up!!! Your kids are worth it!! The memories I’ve made with my girls the last couple of years bc I fought to be with them, and be in their life is worth way more than I spent on attorney fees!!

It sucks, the system is stacked against the dads, but I had to realize my kids were way more to me than my 100k+ shift job to be able to see them!! Having a straight day job totally blew up my ex.

Go ahead and look up Lisa white. If you think Karen downs and her crew are legit you are why Baton Rouge sucks.
