I sear, O could buy a 750pc set and the next wrench or socket I needed would not be in it

This old boomer buys nothing but Craftsman. I haven't bought any tools since Sears sold the rights to them to someone else (I forgot who). That's how long they have lasted. When Sears started selling clothes, quit selling Craftsman Tools, and discontinued the Sears Roebuck catalog (and thus, deprived me of my main source of toilet paper) I haven't set foot in the place since. Sears will be no more real soon now.

a set of good screwdrivers
Never understood this. I get that with a lot of tools, quality is important. But a screwdriver is a screwdriver. Has anyone out there actually broken a screwdriver?

Dude a cheap screwdriver will round out a phillips head with the quickness.
I've got lots of tools and Craftsman and others are amongst them.
But my screwdrivers and primary ratchets are Snap-On. Put the money to quality where you use it the most.
And yes, the Snap On (or Williams if you buy them on Amazon) will turn a stripped out phillips where a chinesium butter metal brand will not.
Best screwdriver set for the money:

DeWalt also makes good tools, but make sure you get the 20v Lithium Ion batteries and chargers with their tool kits.
Seconded. Dewalt is my go to as I own their complete tool set w/hand tools, drill/driver, impact driver, blower and even their wet/dry shop vac. Great quality stuff. I also have Craftsman and Husky complete tool sets and they have served me well in the past.

Craftsman Tools at Lowe’s.
Unfortunately most are Chinese junk. A few sets are made in Taiwan which is good.
Tekton is much better quality for the same money (made in Taiwan). Craftsman lives on as a brand but they are no longer quality tools and haven't been for some time.

Here is a man that has never used a Wera et al screwdriver.
The Wera Lasertips help prevent camout. They also make excellent bits for 1/4 hex holders with lasertips and the ones I prefer have diamond dust impregnated tips that grab screw heads really well.

Also, note the hex right below the handle where you can use a wrench for extra torque.

For a basic mechanics kit, I purchased this DeWalt set a couple of years ago as my road kit. Been able to tackle just about anything I've needed so far. I didn't want to put my nice stuff in my road box so this fit the bill. It comes with all 3 sizes of ratchets, Allen keys, some combo wrenches in both SAE and Metric and just about every socket you will need in all 3 sizes, extensions, swivel adapters, etc. It's a good start that you can build on.
