Sorry had a few drinks tonight, u are 100% correct. Davey Crockett not Daniel Boone in this story. The Crocketts were Irish/French Huguenots just like we were.

Don't forget the Nullification Crisis. We could have very well had the Civil War thirty years early if not for Jackson's leadership through this.

This. Although the war of northern aggression was inevitable.

There are two standards:

1 - HW Brands's Andrew Jackson: His Life and Times is the newest.

2 - Robert Remini's Andrew Jackson is the classic.

The University of Kansas Press has a really good series on the "presidencies" of the different office holders.

Donald B. Cole's The Presidency of Andrew Jackson is their offering on this topic.

Daniel Walker Howe's What Hath God Wrought: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848, is awesome. It's part of the Oxford Univ Press History of America series, which is excellent. In fact, nearly every one of the offerings in that series has won either a Bancroft or Pulitzer.

Yeah, Meacham is like the guy when it comes to writing about Presidents. He came by school to talk about his newest one on George HW Bush.
