Been researching Soros and have a question for those with knowledge about him.

Saw that he is a billionaire and Holocaust survivor . What I can not find out is why he backs these "progressive" public officials-especially DA's. how does he or his family benefit by turning major American cities into crime filled shitholes? I do not understand the guy's motives and can not find anything explaining it.

You should put quotation marks around the Holocaust survivor part. He denies it and of course the Party Propaganda apparatus parrots his denials. But there’s a good chance that son of a bitch was at least Nazi collaborator. The world would be a better place had he died 75 years ago.

Money isn't enough for him, he wants to make the world "a better place" and he's egotistical with billions to spend.
His biggest influence was Karl Popper, which he takes the name of his "Open Society Foundation", was a philosophy of Poppers.
He's trying to fix the broken justice system in the US and he thinks it hurts minorities. He's a big supporter of the "systemic racism" movement.
Took $18 billion of his $26 billion and put it all into his political organizations.
His biggest influence was Karl Popper, which he takes the name of his "Open Society Foundation", was a philosophy of Poppers.

He wants an "Open Society". He believes international finance and the existence of nation-states fosters loopholes and corruption for money that holds back society.
He believes eliminating borders and nation-states will "Open Society" and prevent this money from hiding from society.
He also thinks he had to break down traditional values that foster love of country to actually achieve this "Open Society" goal.
He only needs the US to collapse as a part of his grand vision.
