Live res dabs might help. They make me happy. Have you tried that?

What is it in your opinion that makes this place so bad for someone with depression?

Overanalizing
Group think
Conformity
Daily negativity
Overexaggerations

Damn, bruh. I don't post much, but this place staves off the depression. When I am away from home, working 30 straight nights on little sleep, if I come here, even briefly, I can count on a naughty kindergarten teacher wyhi thread or a verbose cripple being made fun of.

You should consider reconsidering.

This is me.

I come here to laugh out loud at the comedy gold on this board. Good stuff here.... much of it predictable from the usual suspects.

And it's a source for unfiltered news.

Best for you in your journey. I think you're going to be just fine.

Overanalizing

Because of this, I am thoroughly convinced stupid people are happier than smart people. Smart people overanalyze everything, realize the world is fricked, and they have a hard time being dragged out of it. Stupid people don’t overanalyze things.

Like people call Kanye stupid? No he isn’t at all. I’d say he’s probably very intelligent, he’s just been trapped in his brain so long that he has driven himself batshit crazy. It’s just every thought that passes through his brain he overanalyzes. He’s supposed to be going on Joe Rogan’s Podcast this month, which I can’t fricking wait. Should be his best yet letting Kanye rant for 3 hours and Rogan kind of following him stoned out of his mind.

Wasn't it ten years ago that Tiger got hot in the head with aclub by Erin, then crashed his car, and then the news came out he was a cheating poon freak, and subsequently spiraled out of control?

Just seems like everything is picked apart so much that it's created this negative loop in which people are stuck. I was at one time really bad about this but reprogrammed myself for the most part

A lot of anxiety that led to my drinking problems came from overthinking and overanalyzing. I'm convinced this is a large part of the increasing anxiety and depression people are experiencing.

Enjoying the moment seems to be getting more difficult for people. There's just this collective sense of insecurity and angst that's become prominent in society.

I think people were happier when life was simpler, small victories seemed huge and failure wasn't considered as negative as it is today.

Just look no further than George Carlin or Bill Hicks. Both extremely intelligent individuals (I’m guessing 150 IQs); Both miserable people. I don’t see how you can truly fathom the world and be truly happy. You might have some fantastic distractions, which I’m happy to say I do now, but I feel sure if you reduced my and my SO’s IQ by 40 points and I would still have the same standard of living that we both wouldn’t be happier.

I know the OP said he may not be back, and I get they "why" of that, but I really hope he does come back and post more. There's so much in his post that resonate to the core of many of us and knowing that "holy shite, it's NOT just me!" helps the adaptation.

There was a saying in the 60s by Timothy Leary "Turn on, tune in, drop out" and my younger self scoffed at this, my older self embraces. You dont even need drugs.

Tuning out the news and focusing more on things that bring me peace have been life changing. I still loosely keep up with things, but without the commentary.

Let's face it, the goal of corporate America, politicians, media and pop culture is to make you anxious, fearful, jealous, insecure...and that you're out if the loop and being left behind.

You were also focused on today, not what your goals were in 5 years.

There's a real benefit to reading Zen Buddhist thought. I've learned to focus far more on the moment

I realize this, but the SO certainly doesn’t. She loves CNN because they go after Trump the most. Why do they do this? To get your obsession. CNN should never live down that they aired all of Trump’s primary rallies live and unedited. They’re why he’s President. But she doesn’t want to hear it due to her loathing of him and she naturally attracts to the network that obliges her with that. She’s clearly intelligent, but a woman gets ridiculous around things around things she doesn’t want to hear.

I on the other hand hear it and get depressed on corporate America and how we got here. I swear only like 5% of the country understands that, and I think I’m being very generous on that 5%.

I think one reason for that is the internet. Before the internet, especially in the 1950's and before, your past had a lot harder time following you. If you wanted to forget something, you could. You could move to a new town and completely reinvent yourself and no one would know. You could afford to make mistakes when you were young because the only people who might remember them are the people who were there.

Today, everything you do lives forever on the internet. Employers look for any and everything remotely controversial you have ever done online as an excuse not to hire you or replace you with someone more...suitable. You could leave one drunken voicemail and essentially be unemployable for life. Minor criminal charges can follow you for life. Statements you made as a teen can RUIN you and your career as an adult.

NO WONDER PEOPLE OVER ANALYZE EVERYTHING! We can all be doxxed at any time. Every single person is held to this unmeetable standard by our society to the point that everyone is guilty of something. All it takes is pissing off the right dedicated autist to find dirt on you and spread it EVERYWHERE so that the social media and corporate tolerance lynch mob can punish you for it. Whether it's charges of racism, misogyny, sexual harassment, homophobia, or what have you, they will invent it if they have to to make an example out of you if you cross them.

Our pasts follow us like never before and our present has never been more fraught with opportunities for long-lasting consequence. There are a million ways to die by a thousand cuts in the post-credibility age, but no sure-fire ways to escape unscathed.

However, I went to work out with a friend of mine when I was in Arizona. If you've never been, it's a VERY superficial place. Most people care deeply about their health and appearance. I always feel subconcious in the gym because I feel like I don't know what I'm doing, but my friend said something that was accidentally super deep and hopefully helpful:

"Don't worry about how you look doing it. Nobody's looking at you. Everyone is too busy looking at themselves."

For those who are insecure, I think that's the best life advice I've ever heard. Our social media culture convinces us that everyone cares and is judging our every action, but they're not. No one is really paying attention. They're all too busy worrying about how they look. The number of doxxing sky-screaming trolls is actually infinitesimally small in real life. Just live your life without worrying about how it looks to others because no one's paying attention to anyone else enough to pass any judgement.

Absolutely true. We think we are constantly being judged and graded but the only people doing that is employers and ourselves. No one else cares.

That media crap is just a huge cycle of negativity.

Rejecting it really helps to realize the things we see, experience are all highly subject to individual interpretation. Most of the ways we interpret life is programmed

We can let people paint a picture of the world for us or we can experience it through our own understanding and not worry about conformity to the mainstream.
