Does anyone have any info on the flood control project going on across from HRP? They seem to have taken out all of the trees and shrubbery about 10 feet wide on either side of Bayou Fountain. There is a BREC trail that runs next to the bayou in that area that has been completely mowed down. Not sure how this is supposed to help flooding as there will now be no trees with roots running through the bank to stop erosion. And the trail that I and others have used is now nothing more than dirt and stumps.

sign says it was a US Army Corps of Engineer Project

removing the vegetation and clearing out the water way will help get the water out and prevent trash and fallen trees from making dams.

EDIT: searched ASACE baton rouge and this came up:

Bayou Fountain: The proposed plan consists of clearing and snagging approximately 4.6 miles of channel. The proposed improvements would begin at the mouth of Bayou Manchac and continue upstream to Burbank Drive. The proposed improvements are designed to reduce the risk of flood damages caused by out of bank flooding during heavy rainfall events.

Somebody's BIL had an idle crew in-between bulldozing flood plains in AP.

I’ve always wanted to kayak from the launch there down to Fred’s in Port Vincent.

Anyone know how many hours it would take to go from highland road park to Port Vincent?

Somebody on the OB did Highland Road Park to end of Manchac, which is 13.5 miles. Amit to Port Vincent adds another 3.5 miles so 17 total. Depends on how fast you can paddle as to how long that takes. Daylight to dusk straight paddling could be done in a day.

I've always wanted to buy land along that stretch, and open an "outdoor center" with kayak rentals. Shuttle service back from Fred's.
