Where was the trespassing part mentioned? I cannot figure out what he did there.

That was in the first article,
quote:

McCuistion told the Star-Telegram that there were several other charges that he could have pursued against Johnson but didn't, including felony charges for hunting whitetail deer without landowner consent and wasting game. Hunting whitetail deer at night is a Class A misdemeanor.

"He's done that the last two years, hunting without consent, on the same land he killed this deer," McCuistion said. "There are more deer involved than just one."
Doesn't explain exactly what he was doing, though.

Looks like he had the deer on camera on property he had permission to hunt on but knew that they moved onto other adjacent land and started following them, but that's not stated explicitly. He evidently pissed off enough people for them to call the game warden on his arse, though.

Thank you. Glad the landowners busted him. Nothing worse than a selfish greedy deer hunter.

Super nice guy and had a great reputation before all this went down.

It's restitution to the state which is a civil matter and doesn't have to be paid.
All they can do is not allow you to buy a license

They can garnish his wages, they can put a lien on property. They will get the money one way or another in due time

A lot of people have gone years thinking they have escaped paying a fine to a city or state agency until they attempt to sell their house and discover there is a lien against it.
