I’m an analog watch guy; nothing digital. Took my cheap Timex to get a new battery and the guy broke the stem. I need a new watch, $125.00 limit. Any recommendations?

Seiko 5 Series.
Hundreds of styles.
$50-$150
Automatic so no battery to worry about.
Probably last you 15-20 yrs.

That's a serious watch for the money. Definitely a finalist.
As for the Swatch, that's the watch my freshman roommate wore in 1984. Good Swiss watch, but no thanks.

Think it’s the only one worth your time. Don’t get a Fossil unless you see one and love it and buy on animpulse.
Citizen Eco-Drive is nice too. Might have to hunt to find one at $100 though.

I hope they pay for it.
What would you suggest fair market value of a 5 year old Times with a dead battery to be?

I have no idea. But they should be liable for breaking it. That's only fair.

Mechanical watches won’t be as accurate as your Timex, I think you’ll like them more though. So I would second the Seiko suggestion.

Swatch makes an automatic that they just came out with a few years ago. Sistem51. It's a really cool watch and actually kind of "horologically" significant. I'm planning on getting one some time in the next few weeks as soon as I make mind up on which one I want. But, yeah, it couldn't be the type of watch that a person would use as his everyday, main wear.

Go with a classic automatic like the Seiko SKX007
