No no no, why the hell should anyone be cooperating with a cop?

Yea I know. Seems terribly inconvenient and your friends might call you a bootlicker. Still better than having hot lead pumped into by a cop with a hair trigger and the backbone of a wet noodle

Yeah, we don't know, but I'm not inclined to think the guy notified the cops he was a CCR, and then went for a gun with a 4 year old in the back seat.

I think this cop was in the wrong, based solely on his reaction.

That being said, people are insane and some would not hesitate to get in a gunfight even if it endangered a child. A cop shouldn't let his guard down for anyone or any situation. That doesn't mean they need to be a dick or openly hostile to the person they're dealing with, but they should never think "there's a kid in the car, no problem here"

I almost gained some respect for your posts in the BR thread, as you realized later that it appears to be justified.

You just lost all of that

Yeah in that situation you're right. We have no clue what happened here though. We only know what the woman said, and I think she deserves the same benefit of the doubt we give to officers who make a statement.

That being said, I wonder how many times someone has declared they've got a gun and a CCL and still shot the officer or shot at the officer.

Not too well educated about these situations are you?

I think you'd be blown the frick away but some situations cops have seen involving children

Link what?

i've seen it posted several times that he was told not to reach for anything.
I've seen the entire video. His girlfriend clearly says to the cop "you asked for him to get his registration and ID and that's what he did and you shot him 4 times"

Now. Knowing this, do you still have the same opinion?

As far as the folks mentioning how calm and non-chalant (sp?) she was at first. I've worked several shootings on ambulance or bad wrecks, etc. You'd be surprised how calm people are at first seeing their loved ones like that. Many times panic doesn't hit in until pt is loaded in ambulance.

Cop- I need to see your license
Driver- Ok but I have a gun in my waistband. Its legal and im licensed to carry
Cop- Ok sir, please keep your hands where I can see them and away from your gun. Where is your license?
Driver- In my wallet in my back pocket
Cop- Ok, for my safety and yours im going to ask you to step out the vehicle keeping your hands visible
( Now out of the vehicle and and more visible)
Cop- ok sir, if you don't mind Id like to retrieve your wallet from your pocket for you so there is no mistake on my part or yours
Driver- ok cool

That's all fine and dandy in an ideal situation, but as I described before, there are a lot of cops around the country that get really edgy and forget their training when someone says they have a Permit to carry.

In the heat of the moment, when you are trying to just comply with everythuing, it is not unreasonable to think you'd just go for your wallet when asked for ID.

Her narrative changes in the car. Says he was asked for ID and told the officer he had a gun. Officer told him not to move and he reached..( she pauses and said he reached his hands up) and that's when he was shot. I'd be willing to bet and hoping the officer has a camera that shows something different

No she did not. She told the officer, No, you told him to get his license and registration.

It's nothing but the aftermath. You get one side of the story, that if true, is bad for the cop. Definitely more controversial than the Alton Sterling case.

Does having a kid somehow make a criminal less likely to commit a crime?

ETA: Not saying this guy was a criminal before you imply I did.
