We(EBRP voters) voted to fund the library and BREC, separately from the rest of the CityParish. If the City Parish has funding problems, they should either cut services or pass a tax to fund what they think we need, not steal from the library or BREC. Hiller Moore just tried this and it failed. So maybe they need to cut services.

EBR taxpayers pay a lot of taxes.

BREC and the Library get more tax dollars than they need. Their taxes need to be cut.

BR has a revenue shortfall. They need a total overhaul. Social Programs need to be cut or deleted. BRPD and the DA need more money.

Cut the BREC taxes, cut the Library taxes and pass taxes to support thd cops and the DA after the overhaul of thd govt.

No tax increases just a change to ehrrr the money goes.

BR was a nice place to live in the 80s and some of the 90s. The public schools going downhill pushed the middle class families out to the burbs (or elsewhere). There are still nice parts of the city, but it's not like it was 30 years ago for sure.

My point is that the EBRP voters chose to fund BREC and the library. If you want the police and DA to get more funding get out there and hustle for more taxes for them or for the general fund. The mayor can’t unilaterally decide to reallocate taxes from BREC/the library to whatever program he prefers. The only reason he got away with it was the library renewal was coming up, and they needed the council’s approval to get it on the ballot.

So it sounds like it was a pretty good move on his part. He didn't create this mess, but he's tasked with trying to unfrick it.

I don't really like the fact that they took money from libraries who are good stewards of the public money, regardless if they receive too much. It seems like they should be raiding the "community" slush funds but we know they spend every dime they get.

There is not a single metric where I feel like Baton Rouge has improved over the past 10 years. The Alton Sterling shootings, 2016 Flood, the Broome Administration, and Covid just wiped out every bit of positive change and optimism built up by the Kip years.

I graduated from LSU IN 1986 and I haven’t lived in Louisiana since. Baton Rouge and Shreveport had a few bad areas but neither was awful. What happened to Louisiana?
