It's an older house. Tub has drained extremely slow since last roommate moved out. Watching videos and most suggest to unscrew face plate. Well I did that and the whole stopper setup is completely gone.

I have tried fishing it out with a hanger but honestly I don't feel anything.

How do u fix this? Go under the house and mess with the pipes?

Just hire a contractor before you break everything

Lol. I think the plunger has lodged somewhere in the pipes

Is it a built-in tub or exposed like a clawfoot tub?

Is the house on a slab or raised?

Looks built in I guess. I don't see a door or anything to get inside. You would have to knock into wall.

House is off the ground

Sometimes people remove the inside when the level doesn't hold the drain open any longer. I've never seen one just drop down.

May just be hair causing it to drain slow.

Get a $15 snake/auger from Lowes/Depot and try to clean it out.

Just hire a plumber.

He can fish it out if it's down the over flow drain, and install a new waste and overflow trim kit to replace the outdated setup that just rotted off your tub.

the stopper stops inside the tube behind the tub, it physically can go any farther but if its still draining then something is in there stopping it from closing all the way.

you have to access it from inside the wall somehow and it is designed to "slide adjust" to fit the tub. it has nuts you unscrew to take it apart and the pieces slip out of each other.

while its apart run a drain snake into the p-trap because the pipes can get anywhere from 40-60% blocked from all the crud that goes down the drain and settles in the bottom of the p-trap.

its not hard to do but often there is no access so you have to open the wall behind the tub drain. often if you are lucky that will be in a closet so the sheetrock patch doesnt show

You sure the stopper setup was there before you took of the face plate

What's the face plate look like? Did it have a lever on it?
There should be a ridge in the overflow pipe to prevent the stopper from falling too far down the pipe....

if you are careful cutting thew wall open, just a can of spackling at home depot and some paint after to patch the wall.

on mine i cut out some 1/2" plywood using the cut out as a pattern then attached with screws before painting over it. that way if i ever need to get to the faucet or drain again its easy
