I'm a CCW permit holder here in Florida.
I avoid anywhere where I can't carry (unless armed security is provided). I make that decision based on the whole "Gun Free Zone" thing.
Like the guy below you said "Guns and Alcohol" don't mix. So I agree with that. That said, the provision in the law is completely stupid. Here's why:
I can't sit at the bar at Applebees and carry. But I can be in the restaurant with it and drink as much as I want sitting 10 feet away from those guys sitting in the "bar area"
If a business makes 50.1% of it's sales from alcohol, I cannot "legally" carry in that business.
Very weird provision of the law.

Since we are going down that rabbit hole, that activity is legal in other states without noticeable problems.
But we are talking about Florida

frick why didnt somebody tell the shooter that? This whole thing could have been averted.

In AZ you can bring a gun into a bar....
ONLY if the bar doesn't have a sign prohibiting guns(and most do)
AND...you are not allowed to drink ANY alcohol if you are carrying

I don't think religious radicals follow the signs or the laws. Just saying.

Bartenders or security/bouncers that are trained on scenarios like this would be the only way that it could have helped. You don't want a bunch of drunks pulling out guns in a dark nightclub just firing.

Did I even advocate that in the OP?
Some of you can't think past your own emotionally charged nose.
Then what point are you making? You started a thread just to state a fact?
Here's one: The bars in Florida have alcohol. Just saying...

Anerica needs to be a gun free zone.

Property owners have the right to prohibit firearms on their property.
Just saying.
Just saying.

I think the op was just pointing out at how gun free zones have frequently been the targets of these mass shootings
I doubt the shooter targetted the bar because it was gun free.
I think it had more to do with it being filled with gay people.
packed bar (300 people were at the club) are one of the worst places for a shooting to happen. Close your eyes and pull the trigger and you are likely to hit someone

I think you are giving the OP too much credit and read into his post.

But you also have to have a CCW permit to do so.

Not that hard to get one in many states, but AZ doesn't require one so many people don't have it.

No. lol. I was pointing out the weird nature of the law that states I can be somewhere alcohol is as long as it's not the "bar area".
I like my license so I don't drink and carry.
