So does Pratte still collect? I remember him selling his car collection a couple of years ago for around 40-50 million.

Not really. Keep in mind he only collected cars for less than 10 years, just something he did to take up time after selling his business. He is into building and running off-road buggies and sand rails now.

I have to disagree, at least for me it's not only about the performance. It's about total sensory overload for a Supercar, it's the visual of the lines, the acoustics of the exhaust and the tactical feel of the materials.

It's a German car whose bread and butter is a flat 6, I'm talking about an American halo car whose history is centered around a V8.

My point has nothing to do with a 6 cylinder engine in general.

This is them saying this is the best they can do.... yet the new GT500 Mustang will have more power and a bigger engine.

The engine was good enough to win at Le Mans but oh no it's not good enough for a road car... let that rattle around for a minute. As it is people are getting a very close approximation of the actual Le Mans race car, with a V8 it would have been just a caricature.

I get nostalgia but the days of NA supercars is just about gone and with it the exotic exhaust notes. They are as a result faster, lighter and better balanced.

To each his own...

Personally i would gladly opt for a slower outdated I6, flat 6, V8 over a potentially faster turboed 4cylinder or all electric car.

The sound of a car is important to me and is about the total experience. I'm not only concerned about lap times and 1/4 mile times.

They wanted it to bust 1 Million. The auctioneer announced 1 million was bid then dropped it to 900

I'm sure that was embarrassing for him

I get where you are coming from, one of the most glorious sounds in all the world is a flat plane crank in a V8 at 9,000. I also love the idle of a big block with a high duration large overlap cam. But what you wanted Ford to do was reengineer the GT race car and put a heavier/larger V8 in it and ruin the authenticity of the car, likely downgrade the performance all for the sake of an exhaust note.

This is the closest any of the Big Three has come to selling a major series winning track car for the street putting a different engine in it would be sacrilege.
