So I saw a brand new silver McLaren at Chickfila on Siegen yesterday morning. What's a car like that worth these days? Not sure exactly which model it was.

I've always liked those a lot. That was a $30,000 car in 1930, crazy.

The Auburn Fall(not related to AU) auction usually has a duesenberg or two. They are pretty amazing to see up close.

depends on the model. They begin around $200,000 and go up to $2,000,000

no. It's a purpose built dry oil sumped damn near race motor

Yeah. I really just knew it was a blown 5.4, hence the uncertainty in my post. There are many nuances within the 5.4 line up. Looks like the GT motor was reprised for the 2011-12 GT500 though...I'm sure there are some differences but all aluminum supercharged 4v 5.4 was used in both per wiki.

You probably saw a mclaren mp4-12c. They had massive depreciation so you could get one for around 140 or so.

Was it this one?

MP4-12c

It may be a new 570S or maybe even the 650s and 675lt. One thing about McLarens. They are scorching fast. Expect very very low 10s at 135 to 140 depending on which of those 3 you saw. On a few boards a couple owners told me the car has a really soft and compliant ride but sticks like glue.

mclaren 650s

Yes and no, currently getting some mods (converting headlights and wiper to electric), new stereo, then stripping down for paint.

I'm going through withdrawals.

the dry sump oiling system is what sets it apart. Which is why i included that fact in my original post.

That GM Engineer should have had his arse beat for that stupid vacuum system. Knock on wood, mine still works or at least the last time it did.
Mine is on jackstands right now. Halfshafts and trailing arms being rebuilt.
Keep telling yourself...it's a hobby, it's a hobby!

Yeah, they should have kept the electric set up from the Mid-year site.

Are you rebuilding yourself?

Years ago I put the pencil to it and if was only $200 difference to buy new powdercoatef offset trailing arms.

I went that route.

... Surprisingly these cars were pretty state of the art at the time. For instance in '65, they went to 4 wheel 4-piston brakes. At the time only XKEs, Ferrari, and Aston Martin, etc. had those.

I don't think it was either since he said it was silver, but there are a couple of P1's in LA IIRC. I know there is an orange one with gold rims for sure because it passed me on the basin bridge earlier last year.

The McLarens maintenance cost is above its counterparts resulting in usually high depreciation.

Rob Ferretti has a good video about them. He mentions $35k for a new steering rack and a $3k lithium battery.

I pulled them off. I have rebuilt for others but this time Van Steel is doing the rebuild. I wanted to keep the drivetrain original to the car rather than exchange.
You make a good point on doing an exchange and I have advised others to do just that esp when time is a factor.
