It was hyperbole. I wasn't ever beaten as a child.

I was raised to respect my parents and that didn't change when we got on airplanes.

The parents who act as if it's impossible to control their kids are parents who have children who don't respect their authority.

You really should try the Bose, they block out all background noise which is annoying. When I have to fly internationally, I wear them 7-8 hours with no discomfort. Now, if someone would just invent smell cancelling technology, that would be the bomb.

Haha I'm not a big fan of babies, but this is ridiculous. If the parents are flying across the country, should they FedEx their baby? You can't always console a pissed off baby. Just wear headphones like a normal person.

Yeah, just pointing out the difference between authoritarian parenting and socratic parenting . It takes patience, love and intelligence, and it pays huge dividends. Tell a toddler the "why" and model accordingly. I have three kids and none ever melted, probably because they would be embarrassed to be bratty. Kids kind of pick up on the ethos of their family. Make it an adventure, explain things to them, make them feel like they have a role, and that role is to be quiet "so the pilot can hear". Stuff like that actually works . I get that a lot of parents can not control themselves, let alone their children. You have no control over that so why worry?

Not worried. But I'd be nice if we asked them to be responsible parents at least once, like when it's a disruption to 100+ people on an airplane.

I think people get what they pay for. I don't like adults crying either.

What really are they disrupting? It's public transportation if you don't want to hear it you are free to drive yourself other buy or lease a jet. Saying parents should bring a baby into a restroom because theor ears hurts is ignorant baby from an obvious immature person.

So many people are just barely able to keep their basic life together. Stuff like bathing and holding a job. Those people will occasionally get on a plane with their screams kids . That's just part of being in the soup. It's not ever going to change or be "fixed".

I am sure you don't. But eventually you'll realize it's the OP crying and throwing a tantrum.

I'll have to agree with this. I still think it would be nice if we prevented those people from ruining everyone else's experience on airplanes. But obviously bad parents with impertinent children are just a part of life. You have brought the most level-headed posts to this thread. Thank you.

Experienced this on a flight this morning. Parents seemed to be a little older than 30, their girl was probably one and a half. She was in the seat right behind me, and 10 minutes in she was screaming like she wanted to steal the part of Reagan away from Linda Blair. Lasted the whole way.

More than likely a pressure issue, and this couple tried everything to soothe her.

Yeah, it was annoying, especially since I was up at three to get to the airport and hoping for several hours of sleep on the plane, but I have a kid of my own. I just reminded myself of the annoying stuff he's done in his life and how much I'm sure people were annoyed with me.

Just be thankful you didn't have to walk, and that the law of averages means you likely won't experience this again for awhile.
