You don't really need to run it day and night to maintain a minimum level of comfort, frig/freezer temps, etc.

This. It's a good idea to shut if off in the middle of the night imo. You're fridge/freezer will be fine and the temperatures are milder.

Just had 22kw generac installed in January. Gas was on opposite side of house from electric, runs everything in my house including 2 ac's and was $8600. I actually did mine through lowes, had a discount on generator as they sell so many and a local company installed it.

Free Advice: you're not asking an important question.

Contact your homeowners agent. Ask them about discounts, but also ask them about whether it's covered, how to get it covered properly (there are some construction requirements that are involved), does it need to be elevated in order to continue to keep your structure at its current elevation, etc.

I had one installed a year ago. Generators run at two RPM 1800 or 3600 to provide the rated KW and are air cooled "22kw and below" or water cooled "above 22kw". The 1800 rpm will be more expensive but should have a longer life.

My installer did a load test while I flipped on appliances. We were right at the amps a 20kw provides so I decided to go to the 25kw water cooled Cummings.

The gas meter had to be changed to one with more volume so it could provide 2# to the generator and the normal 0.4# to the house.

I suggest doing a lot of research before choosing a brand.

Had one in Baton Rouge and now have one in New Orleans. Works like a charm if the power goes out.

For most generators the KW ratings is for propane, if using NG the rating will be 5 to 10% lower.

Cumming kw is rated on NG to begin with.

I could not see the value in the expense of a stand-by generator. I decided on a portable 9kw dual fuel plus a portable A/C in case of outages. Will run my refrigerator, freezer, portable a/c, lights etc. I get much more use out of my setup. Obvious response is "OT poor", which is quite accurate.

Both for $750
