Education is a big reason why. But to say marriage is stupid and that it goes against our nature is dumb, imo. Some people want to get married and have kids and it's not because of societal pressure.

I think people just need to have more realistic expectations of marriage. And be more willing to recognize if they are just not suited for marriage and the commitment it entails.

Don't expect marriage to make a relationship better.
Don't think marriage is super easy and that at the first sign that it is not...it means the marriage is a sham, you no longer are "in love" and time to divorce.

That's why a partnership works perfect without a legal contract. You can whisper your vows to a priest or your higher power if you want.

Exactly. What makes me laugh on the OT are the people that complain about how little sex they get. Like they're supposed to get head or some arse at the drop of a hat without trying to make their SO feel sexy. And that's incredibly dumb.

"I gained 40 pounds, sit on the couch and watch football on my days off, don't do things with my wife on the weekends and forget certain days like our anniversary. BUT WHY WON'T SHE BLOW ME EVERY DAY?!??! WHY CAN'T I GET PUSSY WHEN I WANT!?!?!"

Yeah but I don't want a partnership....I want a marriage. Which, with my religious beliefs, means the legal and religious commitment.

If you are one of these people that doesn't want legal ties to your spouse...DON'T GET MARRIED. It's really that simple.

The government has no business in the marriage contract business.

If someone feels they need a legal contract for a marriage to work, they may need to rethink things.

I'm not dogging on you or anything. Just stating my beliefs. I'm all for religious purposes but gov has no room digging into that beyond possibly polygamy or things of that nature, and i'm still on the fence.

Why wouldn't a spouse want some legal protection in a marriage though? There is nothing wrong with that. I want to be legally recognized as a spouse if something happens to my husband. Even more so when a child becomes involved.

succession will

I just think the government has no room meddling in marriage. We wouldn't have this gay marriage stuff coming in front of the SCOTUS soon that will create ANOTHER protected class under the 14th.

Just take their nose out of it completely and everything would be hunky dory. Separation of church and state.

No. I just don't think the average person needs them. But I could totally understand someone wealthy considering one. Especially if it's family wealth and other family members could be affected in the case of a divorce and a greedy ex.

Then how do you determine legal matters regarding a spouse?

Social security benefits to the widow?
Making medical decisions for your spouse if they are unable to do so themselves?
Obtaining insurance through your spouse's employer? And on and on.

Without the legal documents saying you are legally the spouse....how else could you prove you are married and the spouse? In a way that would hold up in court?
