Is Paige hot, easy, or all of the above?

That is a nice sounding name, would look good in the dying language of cursive English as well. I just can't imagine it not devolving to Julie in many instances.
Parents use a child's name repeatedly. The easier to say, the better.

I know a lawyer (who used to be one of my law clerks) whose first name is Giancarlo. He goes by Gian (pronounced "John").

Was he American born?
What ignorance if so.

He was born in Italy to American parents.

I have no idea. Never asked.

I cannot imagine the train of thought if they were planning to repatriate for good.
Maybe ancestral. You ever meet his folks? Weird?

I believe that his Dad had a position that brought him to The Vatican. My guess is that they knew they would be returning to The States.

My son is named Atticus. No one has shortened it. There is another student at his school also named Atticus. No one gas shortened his either. It's a great name.

I've honestly never seen it in the real world, only in tales from long ago.
If you're gonna saddle him with three syllables, naming him in the A's is a smart move.
Doesn't have a bad ring, just not my thing.

Sheila ---- don't say she
Jason --- don't say Jay
In that case,
Olivia--- don't say "liv" or "olive"
Ophelia --- don't say "o-phy"
Oreilia
Jessica--- don't say Jess
Nicholas--- don't say Nick
..,is that how this works?

No, it is not. The names Sheila and Jason are two syllables, and flow with ease when spoken. They are simple, effortless to speak, even for a child, thus eliminating the need and likelihood of truncation.
All of the names you listed are truncated to one or two syllables for simplicity in speech.
