Hope so. One tragic death is bad enough

I hope so. I have had 4 people text me about it but then again, we all know each other so it could be the same source circulating info. I'll edit my original post.

Well this ought to about shut down the Greek system for good.

It won't. approximately 25% of LSU's population is Greek. Shutting Greek Life down would have lots of repercussions including losing lots of alumni donations, hurting future incoming class numbers, as well as getting rid of the benefits of the system like the money raised for charity and community service.

I can tell you with high certainty that .48 is about right. And that BAC was at the time of his admittance to the hospital, which was apparently hours after he'd stopped drinking...

Pledgeship should just be eliminated it would solve a lot of issues.

There are currently multiple national Fraternities that have done away with pledgeship and it works fine for them.

This would be push a ton of kids who would otherwise attend LSU to select other SEC schools. We need all the out-of-state money we can get, and the "Southern greek life" experience is a big selling point for middle-to-upper class kids all over the country.

I agree. LSU is already losing a ton of kids to Ole Miss and Alabama because of their Greek system alone. I almost left the state for that very reason. Not to mention that Ole Miss and Bama give out massive scholarships. Shutting it down completely would have horrible, horrible consequences. I fear that they'll go too far trying to reign in a largely nonexistant problem, and essentially shut it down without pulling the plug. F. King and the feminine arse dude who took over IFC are likely two of the worst people to be deciding over something that should not be based on emotion.

LSU will significantly curtail the greek system in a kneejerk reaction like they always do. The Greek system never had a problem with alcohol until LSU outlawed alcoholic consumption on campus which forced these kids to go to bars. Kegs of beer never killed anyone on campus but forcing these kids to drink (guess what LSU college kids drink) at bars off campus only fueled the access to drinking hard liquor and shots.

Regardless when LSU pulls the plug on the greek system and they will pull the plug one day it will be because of LSU's stupidity not because of the greek system.

Except nothing about this incident has anything to do with drinking off campus

Actually, a kid dying on campus is kinda the whole reason it's a big deal

The knee jerk reaction will be as great of a decision as the Coach O hire. LSU is run by incompetent idiots. I pray to God that stupid bitch who took over the Dean of Students office keeps her hands off of this. She has an agenda.

It works fine in the sense that it totally sucks and is largely a solution in search of a problem.

My point was that it works fine for them from an opporational standpoint, and to ensure no hazing. You don't have to like it, but it does work.

Hazing is a pretty small aspect of the dangers of alcohol in the greek context

It's even less important when you consider the risks of alcohol in college life generally

To the extent it's solving a problem, it's a very niche problem that gets a disproportionate amount of attention because of the type of people targeted and the type of people doing the targeting

Bama doesn't go out of their way to strike back at Greeks every chance they get. LSU's own Greek Advisors, who are officially supposed to be advocates for the Greeks, fight against them in favor of the LSU administration on a daily basis. Bama is also loaded and puts a frick ton of money into their houses. Basically, everything is better at Alabama.

Would it not be a big deal if he had been off-campus?
