Austin just seems fake to me, like they try to be weird for the sake of being weird, whereas New Orleans is naturally weird.
Austin definitely has a few things on New Orleans though.

I've lived in Austin for 9 years. I can say that it probably sucks for a quick visit. But I love living here.
I've lived in BR and NOLA. I can say that I love visiting NOLA but hated living there.
Different strokes for different folks. No need to try to make people think you are superior than someone else just because you have different likes/dislikes and or priorities in life. Just enjoy who you are.

Austin was probably cool at a certain point. 6th Street is like a massive Hard Rock Cafe at this point, and the rest of the demographic has shifted from weirdos to hipsters to yuppies over the last 20-30 years. I'm sure it's a comfortable place to live (low crime, high entertainment options), but I always laugh when people move there now and can't get enough of how "cool" it is.

But I'd be pissed for a year or 2 figuring out how to exist in a real winter climate.
It got down to -12 my first week in Denver when they got the shite kicked out of them in the super bowl by Seattle. I immediately started looking for jobs in Cali
Truth is, our winters in Denver/Boulder are much more mild than people think. We get a few cold fronts that are miserably, bitterly cold though. No way to spin that as anything other than what it is
