Audobon Zoo Questions

We are going over to New Orleans for the day next week and the kids want to see the zoo since we saw the Aquarium last time. Is it best to park at/near the zoo and take the street car over to the French market area or will it be better to park somewhere else and take the street car to both areas? We have never done the zoo before but the kids want to go.

See if the Cotton Blossom riverboat still runs to the zoo.

Do you want to ride the streetcar for that experience, of just to get back and forth?
I'd park at both places and drive in between.
The zoo is great and it will take up most of a day if you let it. That doesn't allow for much time to wait for the zoo shuttle to take you St. Charles Ave, where you will wait for the streetcar, and then take the relatively slow ride down to Canal St.
That would be a better option for those who are staying in the French Quarter and have no car.

Park at zoo and take streetcar. It can be difficult at times to find parking near French market.

Park at the zoo for sure.
If you plan on going a couple of times during the summer become members, its woth it.
They just built a brand new water park inside the zoo that is legit for the kids.
Members also get free admission to Insectarium and the Aquarium.

This. Plenty of room

Also this. Covers a lot of other stuff (zoo, aquarium, golf course discounts, etc...)

Wasn't open last week when we went

Yeah we had the membership when our kids were little and it was well worth the money, you could go to all 3 and we went several times
the zoo really is nice but is pretty miserable in the summer due to heat, but the new lazy river is perfect for summertime
it's on quality with San Diego Zoo (I've been to both) just on a much smaller scale, San Diego is like the Disney world of zoos

That is a LONG streetcar ride. See if they still do the riverboat cruise between the aquarium and the zoo. That's much more pleasant.

Park at the zoo and take the street car to wherever else. We did that and the kids loved it.

the river cruise ended after Katrina I believe and never came back, you could take boat from aquarium to zoo and back

The French market is pretty far away from the zoo. Also the zoo isn't really easily accessible from the street car. You would have to walk across Audubon park. You would be looking at a good chunk of your day walking and riding the street car for travel between the two locations. I would just drive. Parking uptown at the zoo isn't hard. They have plenty of parking in front of the entrance. It's a little more difficult to park by the French market, but things generally aren't super crowded downtown during the day. I don't know if any events are going on this weekend though.

I can't stress how good of a deal this is. To go to all three and pay for each, it's like $120 ish. For membership to all 3 is not much more. It pays for itself if you plan on going to any more than once in a year. I would advise getting membership.

Park at the zoo it is. I think that will be the best way to go. Should the kids bring bathing suits for the water park? Sounds like fun.

I am not sure if the water park is open yet. We went a couple weekends ago and it wasn't open yet. But bring an extra pair of shorts and undies for Monkey Hill. Kids will likely end up in the water there.

I would park at the zoo, then drive to Canal Place and park in their garage. You can then ride the trolley down to the French market if you want to get that experience. You do not want to ride on the trolley from the zoo all the way to the quarter with kids.

Only reason I down voted.

It really would be a long ride. In a car it would take like 15 minutes. In the street car you closer to an hour, depending on how long you are waiting at the stop.
