Parking at the zoo is easy/free. Parking near the quarter is not.

See if they still do the riverboat cruise between the aquarium and the zoo.

That's been gone for years.

The streetcar only runs down canal, not down Decatur (which is where market it). So if they park at canal place, they'll still have to walk to the market.

Honestly, that whole trip is a lot to do in one day with kids, depending on their ages. If they are really young, the walking and the long streetcar ride might be too much. If they're older, probably not a problem.

Recommend getting a meal uptown and then zoo (or visa versa) and Audubon park and then coming a different day for the French market, aquarium/insectatarium/French quarter day.

I think there's one that runs up the river, but never taken it, so I'm not positive. In any case, it's not a crazy long walk from Canal to the Jackson Square area.

Depending on the time of day, I think it's worth driving. I have only had trouble parking in that area of the Fresh Quarter once, and that was for a big event. Any other time, you can usually find a space in canal place or one of the surface lots.

There is a line that runs up the river. They can get on right behind canal place and it will take them right to the French market.
