I’m beginning to feel extreme disdain for a large swath of this country more and more daily.

Sure, so is reciting the multiplication tables. These things used to be pretty non-controversial in school.

Great. So you agree with me.

There's a bit of a difference between memorizing mathematical facts and unconditionally pledging yourself to an arbitrary entity that you belong to only by chance.

Typical bespectacled, "I'm enlightened and you're not" liberal.

Why do those always end up in education circles.

I meant, since he was making the same point, that we agree.

I own and hang three flags: USA, LSU, and Acadiana. I love America and the freedoms and opinions I'm allowed to express. Opinions such as Trump being an asshat and it being weird that kids are made to say the pledge daily.

My question is: when this new pledge ( ’“school family, community, country and our global society”) is created and communicated to the schools, what happens if little Steven James decides he wants to take a knee because it doesn’t reflect his personal beliefs or values ? Or he would prefer to pledge his allegiance his country?

No idea. Probably nothing. I doubt a new pledge ever gets agreed upon to be honest.
