I-85 in Atlanta will reopen in time for Monday’s morning rush hour commute and maybe sooner, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday. Deal said construction has gone so smoothly the highway will reopen May 15 – a full month ahead of the original June 15 deadline.

Rumor is that they are going to have a bonfire under it to celebrate!

If this happened in NOLA or BR, they'd be opening it up on November 15

When something that bad happens, people seem to get unusually motivated to correct it.
My ATL friends have been telling me the side streets have been gridlocked because of diverted traffic. Its been an absolute nightmare.

To be honest the people have handled it pretty well. I was expecting road rage shootings all over.

Did they catch the crack head responsible?

Yes and became a racial issue of blaming a black man.

The contracting firm that fixed it, C.W. Matthews, just earned $3.1 million in incentives by fixing it early (before May 21st).
That's a pretty damn good incentive to finish early.

Lulz. I bet ATL has a gaggle of Gravy style race baiters

There were idiots who wanted GDOT's executive management (all white) arrested for storing that HDPE under the bridge.

575 and 400 are the ways to the best north Georgia so wait for a thread on those roads.

I guess it has messed up the side streets but it has made traffic on the Interstates I've traveled on a little better it seems. Certainly no worse.

Are people taking Marta or going around 285 a bit?

Mind blowing

Also a lot of people are working flex schedules or teleworking.
People are using 285 and then using Peachtree Industrial or 20 to get into town.
But then there are a ton of people who are still using 85 and then the side streets to bypass the closed section, which is really jamming that area up.
