Is Athens a good area to visit? Much to do there?

Immaculate college town. A little slice of heaven on Earth.

Yes.

And it's a very good food town. There are a lot of state parks w/in an hour's drive and the mountains are 45 minutes away also.

It is arguably the greatest college town on the planet.

Absolutely. One of the best college towns in the nation.

What are you interested in? Great restaurants, shopping, bars, music scene, campus tour, botanical gardens, museums, nearby state parks and Appy foothills.

When it comes to Athens?

You're GD right I'm a little biased.

Also, my probable future BIL is from Athens.

Went there a few years ago, stopped in on a quiet summer day. Nice town and nice campus. Could tell the food and bar scene was good there. Nice college town for sure.

Just kidding about the downside. We’ve been to Helen and lake swallwell(spelling). Instead of Christmas gifts we like to take trips to different places. Like to hike, sightsee, good food, things like that. Kinda felt Helen was overrated but very nice scenery. Anything away from south Louisiana is nice though.
