Was just thinking that I need to get the grass cut tomorrow, because there's no telling when I'll see home in the daylight hours again.

We haven't had any significant new hiring in the past 2-3 years. And, no, you can't walk in off the street into this job. The full onboarding process takes the better part of 8 months. I applied in August, worked my first day in late November, and finally got released to the field (after training) around April of the following year.

Were they striking a few weeks ago when an ATT tech was supposed to be at my house between 9-11am and didn’t show up until a replacement worker came out the following day?

No replacement worker came to your house a couple weeks ago. The reason your appointment was missed was because your ticket was assigned to a tech who was likely overloaded that day or got hung up on another job. But I’m sure you’ve never taken longer to complete a task because of things beyond your control.

But I guess it would have been too much to ask for the tech or back up tech (or maybe someone working in the office) to call the morning of and let the guy know there wouldn't be a worker showing up that day.
It sucks for people to take off of work or change their schedule for the day and end up dealing with crap like this.

You sure they aren't looking for bridget from card services?

Screw a union.
This.
(Semi) full disclosure - my FIL retired from AT&T, and was a life long union guy. We “discuss” this quite often. The bottom line is that unions are the same as affirmative action. In their inception and theory, they are great ideas. However, in todays world, there is absolutely no place for either.

That’s on the company not the techs. The company can’t catch the load and are forcing overtime on employees. They’re understaffed and announced layoffs that won’t make it any better. Don’t blame the failures of the company on bad decisions from upper management.

The appointment was from 9-11am. Right around 11, the tech called and said he was on another job that would take him about 2-3 hours to finish and then he was heading to my house right after. So now I've gone from missing half a day of work to missing an entire day of work, but as long as he got my service connected, I wasn't going to be mad. By 4:00, he still hadn't shown up or called back so I called him back twice, left voicemails and sent a text. Never heard back from the guy. Called customer service the following morning to complain and they were able to get a different tech out there later that day. The original 2 hour 9-11am appointment window turned into 2 days because I missed an entire day of work on Friday waiting for a tech who no-showed, then had to sit at home all day on Saturday waiting for another tech to show up then complete the job.
If shite hit the fan on his job before mine, a courtesy call to let me know what was going on would have been nice. Or if he was so overloaded that he couldn't even make it to a 9-11 appointment at all that day, then frick AT&T for scheduling appointments that they don't have the manpower to keep

Sounds like he did give you a courtesy call. Like I said don’t blame the techs for mismanagement.

So calling me at 11 to tell me he'd be 2-3 hours late, but then NEVER showing up or calling back is what you consider a courtesy call?
