This is the correct answer.

One more to add in addition to that one is, when they're old enough to go home by themselves after school since we(and probably most people) don't have a home phone.

Those are the 2 items, the only 2 that matter to me, and that's when my boy will get a phone.

Our 15 yo just got one this summer.

Our 13 yo is going to get one for Christmas.

Really depends on the kid, but we won’t even entertain the idea until late middle school.

Wait as long as possible and then only get a phone with restricted use to communicate with your child. You're welcome.

I don't have kids, or a significant other for that matter, but I already went and bought a really nice phone for my child in case I ever have one. I am just using it for the time being until the kid comes along....

8. Very functional, particular with parties, sleepovers and such (kids, not me)

So far the worst thing we've found is that apparantly it's now a thing among teen boys to text each other pictures of their feces in an effort to see who can gross the other out. And i think they get bonus points if they make their friends look at their deuce while eating.

If doing that is wrong, I don't want to be right.

im a little less worried about it since I've got 3 boys

If I had a daughter id be more concerned about the pressure to send inappropriate photos or being contacted by sickos pretending to be preteens

that being said, I can't see getting them a phone until theyre at least in 6th/7th grade and you'd better believe im going to have every fricking tracking system available on those damn things

13 sounds like a good age to start watching porn.

Kids around here get phones for 5th grade since they are allowed to walk home alone at that point.

We bought my son one for his 12th birthday.

It was more of a convenience for us to help keep track of him at school activities and sports.

Plus he has friends throughout the U.S. and other countries and it allows him to keep in touch with them through text, messenger, and instagram.

I got mine at 17 for a grad present. My 14 year old will finally get one this year for an 8th grade grad present. My ex father in law got my kids ipods 4 years ago, though.
