My step-son (17 years old) just took ASVAB for the 1st time and scored 81. I wasn't in the military and don't know how this score stacks up. He wants to join Air Guard to help pay for college and med school. I know certain scores will help him land better jobs after he finishes boot camp. He wants to be an MD. (We were told he didn't score very well with the mechanical questions.)
Is 81 any good?
TIA.
How good of shape is he in?
B/c I know the perfect job that would be perfect for helping him becoming a medical professional while getting some bad arse training.

I am not sure how accurate this is but it may be worth a view by your son.

I absolutely hated kp. I only did it once because drill sergeant made me go because I was can't move sick. Nobody volunteered for it and the drill sergeants sent those they didn't like there. We were there to train.

Took it in high school and didn't try at all. Fast forward 4 years and decided to join ANG. High school scores were so low they wanted me to retake it so I did. Can't remember what I scored but it was so much higher, they thought I cheated so they made me take it again . I scored high enough that I qualified for whatever I wanted. ??

ASVAB Test Results...question?I got a 98 and I really didn't take the test that seriously. Not bragging just saying that 81 isn't very good. That being said, if he maxed out some sections and just sucked at one that could have bearing on his opportunities.
This is true. It's you were better than 98% of the people who took it. That means everyone who takes it. If you score less than %90 you're kind of average.

I got a better one....in high school I scored a 99. I took it again after getting my BA and MA because I decided to go to Army OCS. My score? 90. College does make you dumber.
This exact thing happened to me. Went from a 98 to a 93 after going to college for a couple years.
To be fair the large amounts of alcohol while I was in college may have had some bearing on that also.

little more to it than that don't you think? kind of like saying the Marines are nothing more than the infantry for the Navy

I volunteered for all kinds of shite. Kp or details were usually much chiller than training.
True. LOL.

well, there was a time when, if I were to tell someone I was a fighter pilot, they might ask, who do you fight?

My cousin was a Marine recruiter and said they struggled to find people who could do over a 50. This was Mississippi though.

I got a 93 and was admitted to the Navy Nuclear Power Training School.
My son scored a 93 and also opted for Nuke school, with a little prodding for me. I just hope he can hack it and not be a submariner drop out. Those guys are bitter assholes lol. How did you like nuke school and what would you compare it to?
