McDivitt was sitting beside Ed White when he became the first American to walk in space and was also the first person to ever pilot the Lunar Module as commander of Apollo 9.

Isn't there only a few Apollo astronauts left?

I wanna say around a dozen? However, for Gemini that list is a handful and obviously there are no Mercury astronauts still alive.
God speed to these men, last of the old school heroes.

Of those listed, Aldrin, Scott, Schmitt, and Duke are the only surviving moonwalkers. I hope at least one of them is still alive when (if) we return to the Moon.

I also forgot to include Harrison Schmitt. He walked on the moon with Cernan on Apollo 17. He was the only astronaut scientist to make it to the lunar surface. The rest for ex-military types.
