the NDA is the boss making sure you stfu if the geritol guy sues.
too bad you can't tell your boss he is the pussy. if you were to sit with him over a beer; he would belly ache and say he had to do it, cut costs, pressures blah blah blah. the cycle of BS never stops.

This makes my blood boil! So wrong, I do hope the attorneys are circling.

Think he stated everyone at office had a day off today. Tomorrow may be when he hears more from his co-workers.

Does happen all the time... local hospital that use to be owned by the state has practically made it policy.

Wouldn't be the first time it has happened. Yes, there is definitely a potential Title VII violation.
Watch your back.

Oh this thread is going to be great evidence in the employment lawsuit that's going to get filed.
Talk about age discrimination...

This happens all of the time in the real world.
That is why Unions are so important...they provide some protections against this.

It happens all the time, unfortunately, and will continue forevermore. It is something I detest about many large, & some not so large, companies. It is also something that is so completely & blatantly short-sighted and actually costly to the company many times, in the long term, that it baffles me as to why companies' upper mgmt refuses to acknowledge it.
Getting rid of a valued, experienced employee who has proven to be an asset simply because the pencil pushers believe it will save the company a few bucks to hire a younger one at a cheaper base salary with a few less benefits who has no experience & with zero evidence that he will ever be half as beneficial to the company is one of the riskiest, most unnecessary repeated gambles a company takes, and more often than not, those gambles do not pay off and fail to be cost-effective long term.
In my experience, this happens frequently when someone is trying to cover his/her arse because the bottom line isn't looking so great, usually as a result of long-term poor upper managerial decision making and/or continued ignorance or screw-ups allowed to go unchecked which have snowballed, & a "quick fix" is needed right away to help the bottom line without consideration for long term negative effects & costs that this hiring practice will most likely have on the company.

I have seen it in significantly greater numbers with non-union, salaried employees, usually in middle mgmt or superintendent positions & a lot with professional skilled positions such as engineers. Obviously, they don't have the written-in-stone contracts (many of those contracts completely unreasonable & unfeasible, btw) regarding their hiring/firing that union members do, but have higher salaries & more benefits, which is why they are much easier & more desirable targets than union members.

It's all about the next quarter results. Mgt and the consultants they use will worry about the long term later. After all, there's a good chance they'll have moved on to something else by the time the chickens come home to roost.

Exactly ... And it drives me insane since it goes totally against sound long-term business goals, but as you said, the individuals involved in this type of hiring/firing practice are not basing their decisions on the long term good of the company. These decisions are for the following quarter's bottom line and are a quick way to make it look better. They probably won't be around for the negative fallout as a result of replacing quality, efficiency, & experience with don't-have-a-fricking-clue and probably-don't-care.

This is pretty depressing to think about company loyalty. Also I don't think I've ever heard so many people excited about lawyers on the OT. It almost seems like lawyers might have a purpose in society.

No updates today? Are we to assume that the OP was fired, has no internet access, and is now sucking dick for rent money?

No. I can't get too detailed but the the top dog stepped in and righted the ship. I haven't seen the COO since Monday after lunch. I'm sure I have a target on my back but I'm happy with the way things turned out and glad that I went with my gut feeling that the other two partners were truly standup guys.

good for you, man...honestly, not many folks would have the balls to stand up for what is right...

Good to hear.... The top dog should be impressed by what you did. Takes a lot of balls to stand up to a superior, especially when it doesn't really directly benefit you. Standing up for fellow employees and doing what is right should go along way in showing the top dog your unselfishness & ethical values.
Now 1 of 2 things will happen to you.... a raise/promotion in the near future, or they will find a way to fire you so they can go back to their unethical ways.
