Conference call from the top just confirmed it. They’re telling admin the call hasn’t been made yet but that they should prepare to be gone for two weeks starting Monday. Admin & teachers are running wild trying to get plans in place before leaving for the day. Emphasis was on the fact that there are no known cases within the system but that the preparations need to be made ASAP. Sure looks like they’re leaning toward closing.

So do the two weeks just vanish or is it getting made up at the end of the year or is spring break getting cancelled?

Most districts have 5-7 days for disasters built in. I would bet schools will go one extra week after the original school end date.

So how is this going to work for all of the parents who haven't been sent home yet? Grandma and grandpa gonna watch the kiddos who may already have the virus? Babysitters? Daycare?

That’s a good point.

Dutchtown HS has the infrastructure to do online classrooms. My kids told me today on way from orthodontist. They got notified.
They have a system where teachers can make sure the kid is on the video conference system aka 'going to class'. It's not foolproof (they told me about some spoof software to loop a video of themselves on the app so teacher thinks they're paying attention) but my nerdy kids will do it right and go to class on their laptops. not a big deal for us fortunately. Not sure about little ones.

Honestly, just give the kids two weeks off. They're not going to be able to be responsible enough to just shift to online classes and work. Bite the bullet, and extend the end of the year by two weeks and be done with it.

My work (pretty big place) has prepared to let any employee worn from home during this time. Most of us have laptops already set up for it. But those clerks and admins with desktops will be allowed to take them home along with wireless adapters and VPN software. We ready.

My two are high schoolers and do many of their assignments on laptops already. Their class time is simply going to be a Skype session. They even have a testing mode to administer tests albeit it is hard to prevent cheating. Mine are excited for it(no dress code and bs) and It'll be much better than adding a week to school year.

F that. I have a vacation already planned for the week after. My kids will just have to miss a week.

Yeah but not all schools are set up that way. Mine go to St. John Primary (much younger than yours). It would require all kinds of changes, in addition to good luck getting two young kids to sit still and be focused on an online course not being in the environment of a classroom.

You know what they're gonna say to you, right? They don't care. Either go on vacation and have your kids fail, or make plans to reschedule later on in the summer.

That's a great idea in theory, but when 60-70% of public school students in LA are at or below the poverty line, they can't guarantee they will have the equipment to do online classes. This is a clusterF, and to be honest, I don't think the state should be this involved. Districts should be able to handle themselves. Also, this should've been addressed Wednesday or Thursday. Wait and see approach has, again, been incredibly terrible.

Give it time, Ascension is being proactive. Not sure why, not sure why EBR got in front of cameras yesterday saying they weren't closing either.
