If the test comes back positive, then contractor costs can get expensive. OSHA requires that they wear extra PPE. They may also have to treat it as hazardous waste and dispose of it accordingly.

As the homeowner, the potential Asbestos is probably not friable and never posed a threat to you. Removing it actually increases your risks as breaking it up can cause particles to become airborne.

Also something to consider is that now that you know about it, if you ever sell the house you have to legally disclose of the information. I would personally remove it from an investment standpoint t
