I'm gonna go watch a public city fireworks display tomorrow night and not feel like I should fear for my safety by doing so

Is he that hard up for cash? He is 80+ years old, you never want to be a push over and just tell people don't worry about it, but that might be the best thing to do in this situation.. Unless... He is hoping you will just forget about it, in that case, I guess you have to stay on him.. Because if you don't then he wins.

I'm a little torn. But like I was telling others, I just think he is a pos. I guess when someone is 80 I usually try to picture them as just a good ol old man like a grandpa but I guess that doesn't dissolve them from having always been a pos. He drives a newer model SUV and lives in Diamondhead which is mostly middle-upper middle class....
I honestly don't sweat it and every so often on my text log I'll notice his name and see I haven't heard from him in a while and shoot him a text just to get a good chuckle at whatever excuse he throws my way
