3 employees of Red Bar in Florida died this weekend from fentanyl apparently.
They are claiming xanax, but that is not the word from some friends of mine who knew a victim.

Haven't read it yet, but just based on the headline I'm going to say it's not surprising.
Pharmaceutical lobby has destroyed any alternative to addictive opiate pain medication because.....surprise! That maximizes their profit.
Should be an interesting piece.

It is a disturbing read. I was able to read the whole article on my work computer but I can't access TD on that computer so I posted the link from my phone. Looks like it requires a subscription to WSJ. Anyways it is a very detailed article.

Meh. Most opiates are generic and cheap with low profit margin.

How is collusion between doctors and pharmaceutical companies news? That everyone knew this shady stuff went on.

In this case they even owned the pharmacy.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Doctors are going to make their paper one way or another

I have never seen a pharm rep pushing opiates. Like Cosmo said, most opiates are generic and cheap. Unless it's some shady doctor selling prescriptions, doctors are getting kick backs for opaite prescriptions.

The two in this case are in Mobile. I think they might spend the rest of their lives in prison.

The mfg called their reps PHD'S.....poor hungry and dumb. Paid them 40k base salary and they were making 500k in commission

Can't read the entire article but it basically looks they are talking about the fentanyl patches. I use fentanyl everyday for my patients in the OR setting but the IV form.
I can't tell you how many patients I see every week who have the patches on for pseudo diseases like fibromyalgia and "chronic pain".

There's a fentanyl epidemic here in the south to which MANY people have turned a blind eye.

It's majorly addictive. Withdrawal symptoms after just 4-5 days use. It's bad
