I just haggle with them and they knock a lot off. Once I get a price I am ok paying I pay it in full. I don't think I have ever just blankly received a bill and paid it.

But I mean, if you get hit with a $75,000 bill for some catastrophe and can't afford it, I'm not going to clutch my pearls if you let it go.

Especially if you had insurance and they fraudulently denied the claim.

Hospitals raping insurance companies just because they can is out of control.

Hospitals and insurance companies come to an agreement of what's paid (under contract), no matter what the hospital charges on paper. A hospital may charge $900 for a service, but the insurance may cover a portion, $280 for example. And there are laws stating if you're in-network, the hospital can't go back on the patient for the remainder of that charge. I went through a lot of this recently, and the insurance company explained all of this to me.

I worked in medical billing for several years. These debtors are lazy freeloaders in most cases. There are so many options other than just ignoring the bill.
