A Saturday night in a major city ER.

This should yield some good stories.

I wonder how many patients they'd get for non-emergent care between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m.

24 hr ERs are being built on every corner in Dallas these days. They are as ubiquitous as CVS/ Walgreen's. There are so many I don't know how they make money.

Didn't see anyone with a foreign object in their rectum? I mean at the hospital, I don't want to know about your personal life.

Texas has free-standing licensed ER's with the same standards and allegedly the same capabilities as any other hospital ER. Anyone who needs admission to a hospital has to go by ambulance, much like a transfer from a smaller community hospital, to a larger hospital. They get an ER bill, an ambulance bill, and another hospital bill, along with doctor's fees and etc.

Most don't accept medicaid or medicare and bill at outrageous rates. Some insurance companies don't recognize them either. It's a very expensive and glorified urgent care with a few extras.

You probably will still get a bill.

Yeah, well an urgent care can't treat GSWs and heart attacks to name a couple of scenarios. Guess the doctors that founded these places wanted to get away from the BS that is known as hospital administration.

I can't see my brother ever going back to ER work. Urgent care is busy enough.

Neither can the free-standing ER's. Put a bandage on it or give a nitro and ship 'em out. Not being argumentative in any way, just informative.

Edit to say that they can at least do a CT to diagnose or rule things out.

Contrary to popular belief, Friday and Saturday night isn't usually crazy and busy. It may be filled with drunks, but people don't come in as often.

Sunday and Monday nights are the busiest, because the weekend is over and it's time to go back to work. Nobody wants to give up their weekends, those 2 days are the best time to go in.

People always ask for work notes that say they need to be excused since Thursday or Friday.
