Yeah, I don't know is the answer.
Pretending any of us truly know is just ignorant.

So why are people questioning a basic course of viral mitigation?
Because there’s real collateral damage resulting from most mitigation efforts being imposed by the government via extra legislative fiat and its being taken as a given that said mitigation efforts are a net positive against that collateral damage, even though the evidence to support that position is murky at best in most cases.

Flu cases are down because people are wearing masks and social distancing.
Covid cases are up because people are not wearing masks or social distancing.
What is so hard to understand?

To an extent, I agree. There's a happy medium that the government hasn't been able to find. Or, if the government admits that they're steering a rudderless ship, they should do everything in their power to financially support those business owners, employees, landlords, etc., so that these folks don't lose their livelihoods through no faults of their own.
Instead, we have nonsensical lockdowns, little to no support for those financially impacted, no real plan to get this vaccine rolled out asap, and people sick of it all and just saying "frick it, I'm not going to follow any government recommendation because they don't know what the frick they're doing". I empathize with those people, many of which post on this board. I think it's irresponsible, but I get where that attitude comes from. I'm pissed, too, just not enough to pretend there isn't an active global pandemic requiring zero cautionary measures.

Seasonal flu usually starts in Asia
Maybe the lack of international travel kept it from crossing the Pacific this year?

Almost like social distancing and wearing a mask could be keeping those other two less contagious viruses in check.

I had/have a non-covid sinus infection, which is about on par for me this year and is clearing up quicker than normal.

Just to be clear, you don't think less interaction of individuals would lead to less infection? Not just of the flu or covid, but in general.
For instance, sending your kid to a nursery vs stay at home mom.
