I feel like it only seems that way because so many more are on social media and forums than on the past.
IRL I have friends all over the spectrum, and everyone gets along. Just here we can let our voices out. Eventually the loudest on both sides started to meet IRL. THIS led to the protestsand things we see today. Though again most of those people aren't like that when not in "mob think" mode.
I'll agree that the left's agenda of silencing things they do not like and the Right's preference to only listen to news they like has really furthered the rifts.

Nah, I don't think so, it's just that the internet and social media have allowed everyone to freely share their opinions--whether they're fit for decent company or not.
